Membership

An individual membership fee of $25 is collected annually during the fall semester. The membership fee provides you access to course and special event registration and exclusive social activities.

Speaker Series

The KU Osher Speaker Series features dynamic expert presenters discussing various relevant, interesting topics. A Q&A session follows each unique presentation providing you the chance to engage with the speaker and learn even more. These events are provided online or in person. See below for a listing of speaker series courses.

Artistic Exploration Club

The Artistic Exploration Club meets online to discuss great art and inspire members to nurture their own creative energies. The coordinator provides engaging content for consideration and facilitates lively discussion and the sharing of ideas. Summer club dates are June 6 and July 12 from 10-11:30 a.m. online.

Book Club

The Book Club provides members the opportunity to engage online with each other and discuss books of interest while exploring fascinating topics. Outside of the regular meeting, members can also communicate with each other via an Osher Facebook group if they choose to. Summer club dates are June 21 and July 19 from 10-11:30 a.m. online.

Osher Socials

The Osher Socials occur in person at various locations in Kansas. These social events will allow you to meet other Osher members outside of the classroom and connect with likeminded lifelong learners. No agenda and no lectures. Just show up, visit, engage, and have FUN! Make new friends and feel free to bring a friend. Summer outing take place from 4:30-6 p.m. on June 18 in Lawrence, July 1 in Topeka, and July 31 in Overland Park.

Courses and Special Events Fees

Remember your Osher membership fee of $25 is required to register for courses or attend special events.

We’re excited to nurture your ongoing quest to learn as you engage with and contribute greatly to the world around you. New course and special event offerings are updated every fall, spring and summer semesters. 

Typical course and special event fees:

  • $50 for a three-week course.
  • $35 fro a two-week course.
  • $25 for a one-time session.
  • Special event pricing may vary.

Remember your Osher membership fee of $25 is required to take courses or attend special events. You can pay your membership fee now by calling 785-864-6779, visiting our online registration page, or you can simply add it to your fall registration form when your catalog arrives.

Discounts

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at KU is pleased to collaborate with not just you, but also with the alumni associations of prominent academic institutions such as the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, and Washburn University, providing you with special discounts.

Alumni Discounts

Current members of the alumni associations at Kansas State University, Washburn University and the University of Kansas can receive a $10 once per semester discount on any one course. Does not apply to special events. Call 785-864-6779 for more information.

The member discount is available for short courses only. It does not apply to special event fees.

Referral Program

Be sure to take advantage of our referral program. If you know a lifelong learner who understands the value of intellectual engagement and social connection, encourage them to enroll in their first three-week Osher course for an introductory price of $15. Once they enroll, you will receive 50% off one Osher course (does not include special events). The person must be new to Osher or have not taken classes since June 1, 2019. All discounts must be used by April 30, 2025. To refer a friend, reach out to osher@ku.edu.

Scholarships

Low income seniors who cannot afford to take an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute course now have the option to apply for the Osher Senior Scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Must reside in Douglas, Riley, Shawnee, Johnson, Leavenworth or Wyandotte counties,
  • AND, must live in subsidized housing,
  • OR, receive food stamps,
  • OR, be on Medicaid.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Eligible seniors pay only $10 per Osher course.
  • Once approved, scholarship seniors can register for up to two courses per semester.

A gift membership to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at KU offers a unique opportunity to enrich the life of that special someone, a family member, or good friend. With an Osher Institute membership, you open the worlds of art, music, science, history and a wide variety of special events.

A $50 gift card ensures that your recipient will enroll in one of Osher’s courses or special events specially developed for folks 50 or better. No homework. No tests. No pressure. It’s learning just for the joy of it!
